Untitled Goose Game is the indie hit that no one saw coming. Made by the studio House House, the game has won numerous awards, sold more than one million copies, and became something of a cultural phenomenon.

GDC’s Game of the Year Award for 2020 went to Untitled Goose Game, a stunning victory for a small indie studio like House House. The GDC awards are given out by prominent devs and figures in the gaming community, so that means that the jerk of a goose found its way into the hearts of both gamers and developers alike. There is a reason why Untitled Goose Game was listed as one of the Switch’s most downloaded in 2019; it’s an award-winning good time that has everyone hooked.
Untitled Goose Game wasn’t the only indie title to go home with awards from the GDC. The strangely enthralling Disco Elysium and the fun puzzle game Baba is You also earned some recognition. But amidst the triple-A titles, it’s both surprising and reassuring to see the creativity of a smaller studio rewarded. Untitled Goose Game is not done yet, though, as the title will be going up against the likes of Modern Warfare and Death Stranding at the BAFTAs this year, where it has been nominated for best game.
While there is no clue what the future holds for House House, the sheer amount of accolades likely has put it and Goose Game on the map. Hopefully, gamers will see even more from the studio, including more games, more Goose DLC, and maybe even an Untitled Goose Game LEGO set.
