NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan told The Associated Press on Tuesday the league’s board had approved an investment plan to establish teams in Canada’s two largest cities for the start of next season. Rylan also said her league has received a commitment from the NHL that will make it one of the NWHLs biggest financial sponsors. The decision by the U.S.-based NWHL to cross the border and expand from five teams to seven comes just two days after the Canadian Women’s Hockey League abruptly announced it will cease operations by May 1 due to financial issues....

A London auction house sold the artifact, known as the Gilgamesh Dream Tablet, to Hobby Lobby in a private sale in 2014. The auction house had earlier purchased the tablet along with a false letter of provenance which had been used by dealers several times to traffick the artifact illegally, according to the U.S. government’s letter of complaint. The U.S. intends to return the tablet to Iraq, the country standing in the region where the tablet was originally created....

In their study, published in Scientific Reports, the team looked at the Vadret da Morteratsch glacier and found an abundance of Ancylonema nordenskioeldiia. This, they wrote, is a “species that has never previously been quantitatively documented in the Alps and that dominates algal blooms on the Greenland Ice Sheet.” The team said finding this algae in the European Alps is important because of its potential impact on global warming....
